Old Man Yells At Cloud: The ridiculous idea that Nintendo is “for sale”

Every time some big acquisition is made or rumored to be made by Microsoft or Sony, there are always people who spread this unbelievably dumb idea that Nintendo is a viable target.

They aren’t.

I’ll go into why, and it won’t take long.

Nintendo is not for sale, they have no reason to want to be “acquired” by any company.  They are not in ANY kind of financial situation to even consider it, they have plenty of cash, they have a very successful system.  They have ALWAYS been run in  a way to make sure they have plenty of cash to survive.

There isn’t a single valid reason to even list them as an option at ALL when these rumors come up.

And for Microsoft, they couldn’t buy them even if they wanted to, and it’s not money that’s the issue.  A law in Japan protects companies that are culturally significant from being targets of takeovers or acquisitions by foreign companies. Nintendo is ABSOLUTELY protected by that law, and for that matter, I’m pretty sure Square-Enix would be as well due to owning Dragon Quest.

There is no way in hell Japan would allow Microsoft to buy either company.  Nintendo’s IPs are far too important in Japan, and Dragon Quest is/was so big that they had to restrict the days it could be released.

It won’t and shouldn’t happen.

As for Sony: They would be laughed out of the building if they even tried to TALK to Nintendo about anything like that.

They shouldn’t be allowed to buy Square-Enix either. Both for antitrust reasons, and for me personally, because I prefer the kind of games they make for the Switch. Those would be long gone if Sony owned them.

And they’d be 100% correct in stopping it.

But this dumb rant is about Nintendo being “bought” not Square-Enix and Sony.

The real reason a lot of these people list Nintendo when this comes up is for attention, they want their tweet, article or video to get views. And the real reason you see people WANTING them to be bought out is fanboyism.

Plain and simple.

It’s all about wanting Nintendo’s hardware pulled off the market, it doesn’t matter if it’s XBox, PlayStation, or PC fanboys pushing for it.

They want the same thing.

And the fact that they’ll never get what they want is what drives them to be even louder and dumber about it every time.

Far too often these people don’t even like Nintendo’s games, they just view them as “holding back” gaming with their “weak” hardware.

Just look at the response to things like Bayonetta 2, which as has been said a million times. wouldn’t exist without Nintendo.  That’s the motivation, to keep Nintendo from ever getting “their” games.  Some of these people are so dedicated to whatever platform that they think THIRD PARTY franchises actually legally belong to Sony or Microsoft.

It’s nothing but fanboyism, console wars, and PC elitism.

All the same.

All pathetic.

That’s all, I’m tired, get off my lawn.
